Colorblind racist in little lamb clothes,
What’s become of our salvation?
L.P. NARCISSYPHUS (out 1.21.19) is a return to straight-ahead songwriting for Tavo Carbone and his most confident artistic work to date. The album traverses a broad spectrum of musical genres while retaining a fluid, distinct and honed dialect — mutating contemporary Pop with musical elements of Experimental, Folk, Punk, Dub, Chamber and even aspects of Hip-Hop as a verbally engaging and architecturally elaborate body of produced work.
Narcissyphus prominently features landscapes of cello played by longtime collaborator Adele Mori, plus piano by former teacher Allen Shawn for the Charles Ives cover Like a Sick Eagle. Containing 11 songs — such as “All the People” “Who’s The Boss?” and “Douchebag Caveat” — the album finds Carbone playing a multitude of instruments (guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, organs, mellotron, samplers, accordion and percussion that includes power drill, cheese grater, house keys and a dog leash), harking back to early 4-track machine recordings but unabashedly embracing the limitless palette of contemporary expression in a digital era. Engineered & Mixed by Benjamin Mayock, complete with artwork by Tavo and music videos by Connor Kammerer.
This 11-song L.P. explores the transitory themes of home, identity, family, colonization, and social disintegration via spiritual corrosion in modern-day corporate America.
